BASIC LEVEL ENTRIES

: 1st – 8.5 – Nice capture of a great story. Image is sharp except the wings of the top bird.

: 2nd – 7.8 – Great story. Sharp image. The image may have been “over-denoised” that all details are lost. The bird would be more beautiful showing feather details.

: 7.0 – Good abstract. Increase contrast on the wing to separate it from the clouds.

: 6.8 – Nice colour pattern. Increase contrast in post processing to bring out the 3-D effect

ADVANCED LEVEL ENTRIES

: 1st – 8.0 – Nice capture of the airshow. Crop tighter so more details of the plane can be seen. Maker can consider flipping the image to show the planes flying horizontally so plane details can be more visible. Increase contrast to stand out the airplanes.

: 2nd – 7.6 – The image is generally sharp. Nice colour combination. For a more impactful and artisitic image, consider a wider aperture with emphasis only on one or two flowers.

: 3rd – 7.5 – Good capture of the sport. Consider shooting from the front of the athlete to avoid the background distractions and create stronger impact. It will also show the athelete’s expression better.

: 7.5 – Good capture of the happy moment. All faces are visible. Unfortunately it was shot at bright sunlight condition. There are too much highlights on the slide that cannot be easily adjusted in post processing.

: 6.0 – The image has a story but too busy with a very cluttered background. It is more a snap shot. Try shoot from a different angle that focus more on the main subject of the image and minimize the shadow on the face of the subjects.

: 6.0 – Consider blurring the background to simplying the image and minimize the distractions. Sharpen the main subject in post processing to bring out the details of the dandelion pappi.

: 6.0 – Maker may consider shooting at a different angle to minimize the highlight on the right side. Perhaps shoot straight on the front so the wordings on the plaques can be more legible to tell the story.

: 6.0 – The flower is beautiful. The background is too busy. Consider simplifying the image by blurring the background as this competition is in pictorial not nature category

MASTER LEVEL ENTRIES

: 1st – 9.0 – Nice sharp image. The blur showing the motion of the hand is acceptable. Maker may consider darken the metal rod on the top left side the image. It is quite distracting above the head of the subject.

: 2nd – 8.0 – Beautiful Bison. It is relatively sharp. Maker may consider opening up the shadow slightly to bring out more details of the fur. Adjust the contrast and brightness to even out the lights between the head and the body of the bison.

: 3rd – 8.0 – Adjust the white light on the top of the image which draws attention to. It would be good if part of the hand and the leg is not cut off.

: HM – 7.5 – Nice leading line to the windmill. Open up the shadow to show details. Adjust in post to bring out the colours and texture and sharpness of the image.

: 7.5 – Nice sharp image. There is not much of a story to the image.

: 7.0 – There are too many element in this image. Consider simplifying it by emphasizing only on a specific area. Perhaps crop to only show the mountains. Adjust the contrast and texture in post processing to bring out the details.

: 7.0 – Very colourful image. It seems to be slightly over-saturated. Consdier cropping tighter so there will be less of the forest. It is now taken up 50% of the image. Emphasis is on the busy architecture.

: 7.0 – Nice colourful shop at the beach. The image can be cropped tighter to bring focus to the shop and the colours.

: 6.5 – Nice idea. Would be more impactful if the scenery inside the frame is more exciting. May consider shooting in long exposure to create a more picturesque scene. Clean up the debris on the beach.

: 6.5 – It’s nice to show the heron in environment. The image could be cropped tighter to bring focus to the main subject – the heron and still in the environment. The bird is out of foucs and shows no detail.

: 6.0 – The image is more a snapshot of the vehicle with some children. It would be more impactful if at least one of the people, the driver or one of the children is looking at the camera.

: 6.0 – The image shows a happy family. It would be more impactful to catch the moment when the child is looking towards the camera.

: 6.0 – The image could be a good story. Crop tighter to emphasize the story. It will be more impactful if it is not shot in bright day light. Image needs to be sharper

: 5.9 – It is exciting to see a hawk on a tree. Unfortunately it is out of focus. The image is backlit, so too much hightlight in the background.

: 5.6 – The pelican is out of focus. It is not sharp and show no details.

: 5.5 – The image is a travel snap shot. Isolate the different elements.
